Over the past few decades, African governments and international organizations have
initiated numerous reforms aimed at achieving gender equality. Despite these efforts being made in
Ghana, gender inequalities persist at the community level. This qualitative study applies thematic
analysis per the theoretical dimensions of Connell’s gender regime, based on the analysis of data
collected from a group of Ghanaian women (40 participants) within the rural communities of Bosore
and Abirem in the Kwabre East district. It emerged that, power dynamics in the communities occur
based on the dominant form of masculinity, which shape gender relations. This is where by the dynamics
of social power structure, including cultural plays a role in the exclusion of the Kwabre women from
the labour market. Such gender discourse are reproduced per existing gender arrangements, which
within the communities’ cultural contexts, these are recognized by clans and ethnic groups. This tend
to affect the social and economic realities of the women, in regards to household dynamics, and how
the patterns of cathexis interact with gender role expectations.
