250 лет спустя. Наследие Революции глазами африкано-американцев (по материалам полевых исследований 2013–2015 и 2021–2022 гг.)
The article explores contemporary African Americans’ perspectives on the Revolution and its legacy, and in particular their understanding of the social, political, and cultural foundations of their country laid during that era and the results achieved on those foundations, both for American society as a whole and for its Black community. Assessments of the past, present, and future of African Americans of different respondents’ and on various issues could both coincide with, and diverge from their views on the historical experience and foundations of American society as a whole. While for a long time (at least until the victory of the Civil Rights Movement), the dominant discourse positioned the American nation as a white nation, and Black Americans were actually not considered as members of the nation, for African Americans themselves, their history has always been an integral and highly significant part of the country’s history. The article is based on field evidence collected by Russian researchers under the author’s supervision in 2013–2015 and 2021–2022: 35 interviews and 55 conversations with African Americans of both sexes, aged 14 to 87, from various walks of life, living in 16 cities of varying sizes in 10 states.
