The book presents a detailed art historian analysis of a whole range of types of the "new woman" constructed by the Soviet authorities in the 1920s-1930s. The author shows how closely propaganda and agitation tasks were intertwined with social changes and innovation in art, and also suggests looking at the early Soviet gender reform as the basis for the variety of artistic solutions that arose.
