Другое» искусство / «Другие» в искусстве: дискурсы исключения в искусстве поздней модерности
The authors of the monograph examine three aspects of the phenomenon of marginality in artistic culture from the nineteenth to the early twenty-first century. The first part of the volume focuses on the processes and actors of the “borderlands” in the context of art and culture of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The authors draw on trauma studies to examine painting and cinema, addressing the artistic interpretation of the traumatic experiences of the First and Second World Wars in avant-garde and Art Brut art, the representation of neurotic manifestations in silent cinema, and the reception of Russian art.
The second section of the monograph explores the phenomena of otherness, marginality, and liminality and their representation in Russian and international art of the mid- to late twentieth century. It examines the theoretical foundations of Art Brut and Jean Dubuffet’s conceptualization of the notion, as well as the embodiment of these principles in his artistic practice. In Russian art, the phenomenon of otherness is examined through drawings created in the Gulag by artists who were subjected to political repression. The volume also presents an analysis of works by the interdisciplinary artist Niki de Saint Phalle, whose practice engages in a sustained dialogue with the philosophical and sociocultural category of the “Other” and offers new perspectives on femininity, beauty, and subjectivity.
The concluding section examines trends in the development of the artistic process from the late twentieth to the early twenty-first century. The authors address the phenomenon of the teratological body through examples from contemporary Western European art, the phenomenon of adolescent marginality in Russian cinema, and the phenomenon of metamodernism.
