Contrary to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's assertion that "the most beautiful thing in the stars, houses, and deserts is what the eyes cannot see," the authors of this monograph dispassionately test the harmony of beauty in the East through the algebra
of scientific analysis, continuing the work of their first book, "The Beautiful and the Utilitarian: From the Pre-Pottery Neolithic to Islamic Art." The monograph consists of studies devoted to the utility of beauty, expressed through all forms of plastic art in Western Asia, Egypt, the Chinese world, and Central Asia. Particular attention is given to philosophical, cultural, and etymological studies of terms related to beauty and the beautiful.

This Handbook examines relations between Japan and Korea from 1850 to the present.

Boris Pasternak’s poem “Before All That There Was Winter” (from the book “My Sister, Life”) is enigmatic in many ways: its content is obscure, its syntax is not always clear, and the boundaries of its metaphors are not obvious. It requires a thorough and detailed analysis of each line. This analysis was carried out by ...

This article presents a novel corpus-based approach to (im)politeness research, grounded in Terkourafi's theory of politeness as conventionalization, which highlights the frequent use of linguistic forms in specific contexts as key to developing politeness meanings. We propose lexical bundles – recurrent multi-word sequences – as a systematic tool for tracking (im)politeness in discourse. To illustrate ...

In his main works, René Descartes, in addition to such an impressive metaphysical construction, over and over again gives promises of happiness, which must certainly accompany the study of philosophy according to a new model.
