The article discusses English-Russian translation of specialized texts representing such fields of knowledge as finance, economics, and law from the lacuna theory perspective; this theory being a constructive psycholinguistic tool for translation problem-solving. Grammatical transformations are treated in translation studies as reallocation of grammatical meanings represented in the source-language text across other language levels in the target-language text. This exemplifies the Russian scholars’ sustained belief that a message in the source text when conveyed in the target language becomes ‘threaded’ through different language levels as stipulated by system-bound structural differences of the communicating tongues. English-Russian translated wording parallels exemplify different language levels employed by these contacting languages for representing the same textual meaning, thus enforcing the translator to apply inferencing technique.
