ВАРИАТИВНОСТЬ И ИЗМЕНЕНИЕ РУССКОГО ПАДЕЖНОГО УПРАВЛЕНИЯ: КОРПУСНОЕ ИССЛЕДОВАНИЕ РУССКО-АНГЛИЙСКОГО БИЛИНГВИЗМА
This paper explores variation of case government in written production of Russian bilingual students dominant in English. The study examines the anomal samples with morphologically correct, but syntactically inappropriate case forms, for example на Азорских островов ‘on the Azorean islands’ with the Genitive instead of the Prepositional. The data come from the Russian Learner Corpus. The analysis reveals that the seemingly arbitrary confusion of cases reflects a linguistic variation and ongoing grammatical change involving expansion of the Genitive after a preposition as a tendency towards a more unified structure of the Russian prepositional phrase. The results indicate a few stable trends, such as mixture of Genitive-Prepositional and Genitive-Instrumental. These innovations are typical for Russian bilingual communities and develop independently from structures of their dominant language.
