A Bibliometric Network Analysis of Green Information Technology and Green Information Systems Research
In recent years, the concepts of Green Information Technology (Green IT) and Green Information Systems (Green IS) have attracted the attention of many researchers. Several environmental and sustainability studies have suggested that smart usage of Green IT and Green IS is one of the most important enablers of sustainable development in organizations and has a substantial role in greening the planet. The aim of this paper is to investigate the development of the field of Green IT and Green IS based on the published works. The focus is to analyse the keywords of related papers, which were obtained from the Web of Science database at the end of May 2019. The 4017 keywords were extracted from the 1931 papers with the complete descriptions. Based on the 2-mode network of works and keywords, the list of the most frequent keywords is provided together with the analysis of keywords co-occurrence. Multiplying two 2-mode networks of works and keywords and works and journals, the keywords for selected journals are analysed. The most frequent keywords are presented through the lenses of the most prominent journals in the field of information systems. To highlight the directions of the development of the field, the results of the temporal network analysis are presented. The most prominent discovered keywords in each year enable the chronological mapping of the field. The studied field of Green IT and Green IS shows constant growing in the last decades and the results highlight the trends of the field future development.
