Im April 2017 stufte das Oberste Gericht Russlands die Zeugen Jehovas als „extremistische Organisation“ ein. Wissenschaftlichen Gutachten, die in Russland zwecks Einstufung einer Religionsgemeinschaft als „extremistisch“ erstellt werden, mangelt es jedoch oft an Verständnis für die Besonderheiten religiöser Weltanschauungen. Häufig genügen Abweichungen von den Normen der „traditionellen Religionen“, dass eine religiöse Minderheit als gefährlich eingestuft wird.–
