This monograph explores contemporary forms of national consciousness among the indigenous population of the Altai Mountains, in particular, the attempts to formulate an "Altai philosophy." It reveals their mythological content, partly linked to ancient mythological models and partly formulated anew. To study contemporary forms of mythological thinking, the project of ethnosophy is applied—a discipline that utilizes the methods and achievements of ethnography, philosophy, cultural studies, and cultural anthropology.
