Размышления о технике
This book brings together two texts by the Spanish philosopher José Ortega y Gasset (1883–1955) that explore the role of technology throughout history: "Meditations on Technology"—originally a short series of lectures delivered at the Summer University of Santander in 1933—and the paper "The Myth of Man Behind Technology" (1951), presented as part of the "Darmstadt Conversations." In these works, Ortega reflects on the differences between humans and animals, discusses the stages of technological development, and examines how the role of technology has shifted over the last few centuries. What was once a means for transforming the world has come to dominate its creator to such an extent that the roles of human and machine have been reversed: the machine is no longer merely an instrument for producing something new; instead, the worker has become an appendage of the device, thereby losing, in a sense, their human character.
