Inclusiveness of environments is influenced by both physical and social features of the environment in which people with mental disabilities find themselves. The need to balance independence and exclusion, control and freedom in the production and reproduction of an inclusive living environment for people with mental disability is demonstrated. Social inclusion is a foundation for well-being and a significant component of community inclusion. Its implementation through the construction of an inclusive living environment for people with mental disabilities, including through supported living programmes. Supported living is an inpatient replacement technology of social services, in the implementation of which people with mental disabilities can live together with other people with mental disabilities, or alone, but in any case, with full or partial support from social workers.
Building an inclusive living environment can be done both at the city level and at the level of specific programmes, but either way an important element of inclusion is to consider the voices of people with mental disabilities themselves in the process.
