The collection of articles includes papers aimed at the research into various issues of Philology, Linguistics, teaching foreign languages, in particular, the peculiarities of teaching foreign languages in universities, teaching Russian as a foreign language, psychological and pedagogical aspects of teaching, cross-cultural communication.
Since the research process is assumed to be completed only when its results have been introduced to and acknowledged by the academia, scholars tend to get their studies and achievements published. Russian researchers make attempts to apply to international journals but get disappointed as not all articles prove to be accepted. The present article aims to analyse and summarise international journals’ tips and guidelines addressed to potential authors focusing on structural norms and citation and referencing conventions and. The conclusions made on the basis of the current analysis may be used by those who are planning to try hand at writing internationally and by university staff involved in teaching academic writing skills.

the article describes methods of employing aphorisms of American presidents as a useful component of mastering language skills. High officials' sayings do not only explain how to hold an impressive and comprehensive political discourse but give an insight into the background knowledge, culture, history and religion of the country where they appeared. the article givessome analysis of both modern sayings and those of the past showing how their application can help to trace the appearance and development of the present-day American society, making the dialogue ofd cultures more meaningful and constructive.
The article examines competences of foreign students learning Russian as a foreign language at a pre-university stage. It offers basic concepts of interact-ing between languages and cultures; looks into ways of developing interpersonal and intercultural communication. It supports the necessity of using nationally-oriented materials in teaching.
"Axiology in foreign-language education 2" is a collection of scholarly articles on theory and practices of implementing an axiological approach in foreign-language teaching and learning. The book is a new contribution in a series on general and professional linguodidactics.
Philological research, especially in the field of literature, is usually considered a "thing-in-itself"; the intrinsic value of this phenomenon involves extremely intuitive, creative, "human-readable" analysis. Meanwhile, modern variety of computer programs (semantic text referentors, tag clouds, concordansers, etc.), created also for the humanities, such as sociology, psychology, management, cannot but draw a philologist’s attention. The steps, how to work with a parallel subcorpus in Russian National Korpus, described in detail. Reviewed freeware LR aligner (for non-commercial use), compares translations in Russian the novel "All Red" by J.Chmielewska. As examples of lexical items selected the modal word "avos’", the word "nakonets" as an introductory and the circumstances of the word "ves’" and "tsely". The Program LF aligner treated three translations of the novel, the authors are M.Krongauz, V.Selivanova, O. Kuznetsova. Consistent description of the existing programs, testing them on art material and comparison of the received data with the existing traditional research, especially in the field of philology and foreign language teaching, is a new step of a text analysis.
A description of the nationally oriented training complex for learning Russian as a foreign language “V Dobryi Put’!” for German speakers which includes a textbook, an audio‑supplement, a video‑film and a test system is given. The computer-based training system, designed for this complex ensures effective teaching foreign students Russian phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, speech etiquette, and also facilitates the formation of the necessary communication skills.

The article deals with the problem of translating Russian fairy tales into English. Special attention is devoted to transmitting figurative expressive speech and the initial message of the story. The author analizes various types of translating the non-existing vocabulary. The author goes on to prove the effectiveness of studying the cultural heritage of the country and mastering crosscultural communication by reading fairy tales.
Students' internet usage attracts the attention of many researchers in different countries. Differences in internet penetration in diverse countries lead us to ask about the interaction of medium and culture in this process. In this paper we present an analysis based on a sample of 825 students from 18 Russian universities and discuss findings on particularities of students' ICT usage. On the background of the findings of the study, based on data collected in 2008-2009 year during a project "A сross-cultural study of the new learning culture formation in Germany and Russia", we discuss the problem of plagiarism in Russia, the availability of ICT features in Russian universities and an evaluation of the attractiveness of different categories of ICT usage and gender specifics in the use of ICT.
