Аляскинский английский: этнические, культурные и поколенческие особенности

Alaskan English (AE) refers to a regional variety of English in Alaska, previously known as Village English. Surprisingly, with a lot of research of English as lingua franca and also of the numerous variants or dialects of English, this particular variety has not received much attention from scholars and still remains largely underinvestigated. AE has distinct linguistic characteristics as compared to Standard American English, the emergence of which can be considered the result of incomplete language acquisition, contact phenomena, including with Russian and Alaskan Native languages, and the influence of numerous sociolects. The present work encompasses the analysis of English language narratives of Native Alaskans (mainly Athabaskans) who live in the Upper Kuskokwim region. One of the aims of this research project is to explore the specificities of Alaskan English that may depend on the ethnic, social and generational differences of its speakers, as well as the ways of its acquisition.
