«Пространственный поворот» в современной гуманитаристике: практики и перспективы изучения истории Российской империи

The aim of the article is to characterize the current field of spatial studies as applied to the history of the Russian Empire. The work examines the main tenets associated with the “spatial turn” in the humanities and analyzes the extent to which existing approaches of spatial history have been adapted to the period of imperial Russia. The author notes that the bulk of historiography within this direction comes from foreign scholarship, while in Russian historiography it is considerably less developed. The text also presents existing projects that have created geographic information systems (GIS) for Russian history. The article as well turns to an analysis of the literature on imagined spaces of the empire. It is shown that, despite existing research interest in this subject matter, the bulk of the literature focuses on the perception of Russian territories from the outside, although a trend toward analyzing mental geography spaces within the empire itself is also evident.
