Transportation Research Procedia: 12th International Conference on Air Transport – INAIR 2023, The Future of Aviation – is the Sky the Limit?
We appreciate the opportunity to edit this special issue of Transportation Research Procedia for selected papers
presented at the 12th International Conference on Air Transport – INAIR 2023, held in Tartu, Estonia, on 15 – 17
November 2023. INAIR is an annual international scientific conference where the academia and air transport industry meet to exchange ideas and discuss common research challenges. The interaction between industry representatives and researchers is the key to generating innovative solutions for the challenges of the future post-COVID-19 aviation. It is also a place to discuss current needs of all aviation stakeholders. Some of the research ideas reported in the
conference were investigated under the national grant scheme VEGA 1/0695/21, titled “Air Transport and COVID-
19: Research on the Crisis Impacts with a Focus on the Possibilities to Revitalize the Industry.” Published papers
reflect diverse approaches, methodologies, solutions, and findings. Moreover, the papers covering educational issues
are included in the Procedia as they may provide needed incentives to transform aviation educational institutions
according to requirements of future aviation industry. Among the narratives of published papers, green and
sustainable, smart and digital, friendly and safe aviation dominates. All 33 submitted articles were peer-reviewed by experts in the related area with consideration of the Conference theme. From these, 31 papers were accepted for publication. The editors worked with authors, in particular young PhD students, in order to improve and ensure the quality of presented research papers. This year we increased the number of the Scientific Committee Members to be able to respond to new problems presented by authors. As guest editors of this issue, we are pleased to see a wide variety of ideas contributed by academics and experts from the air transport industry. We would especially like to thank our reviewers – the members of International Scientific Committee – and the publisher for their advice and help. Special thanks also goes to the INAIR 2023 Conference Organising team for their technical support.
