Vladimir Kantor talks about his father, a great philosopher — aesthetics, philosopher of history, art critic, author of books noted in Russia and abroad. The essay was written for the centenary of the birth of Karl Moiseevich Kantor, a kind of anniversary publication. The author of the article gives assessments of his work and his personality by Russian philosophers and artists. The father’s social circle is shown, starting with a childhood friend of the famous film director Grigory Chukhrai, film director Mark Donskoy, artists Ilya Kabakov, Mark Konik, philosophers Merab Mamardashvili, Erich Solovyov, Piama Gaidenko, writers and poets Naum Korzhavin, Nikolai Evdokimov and others. The circle of these friends gives an idea of the breadth of Karl Kantor’s interests. The article is accompanied by a short note by a student about the presentation of the book “The Thirteenth Apostle”, as well as an archival publication “The Focal Character of History”.
