‘This Format Turned Each Presentation Into a Collaborative Effort to Assess the Robustness of the Study
On October 16, 2026, HSE ICEF hosted the Eighth International Conference on Applied Economics. Held fully on-site, the conference brought researchers from HSE University, the New Economic School, Wuhan University, and Shandong University together in Moscow. The programme was organised around three overarching themes— ‘Environment, Resources and Policy,’ ‘Migration, Labour, and Communication,’ and ‘Consumption, Behaviour, and Climate—offering an opportunity to see how similar economic mechanisms operate in China, Pakistan, the United States, and Russia.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation modulates action naming over the left but not right inferior frontal gyrus

Brain Structure and Function. 2022. Vol. 227. No. 8. P. 2797–2808.
Bolgina T., Vidya Somashekarappa, Cappa S., Cherkasova Z., Feurra M., Malyutina S., Sapuntsova A., Shtyrov Y., Dragoy O.

fMRI language mapping studies report right-hemispheric contribution to language in healthy individuals. However, it remains unclear whether these right-hemispheric patterns of activity are critical for language, which is highly relevant for clinical preoperative language mapping. The available findings are controversial. In this study, we first measured individual patterns of language lateralization with an fMRI language localizer in healthy participants with different handedness (N = 31). Then, the same participants received rTMS over the individual coordinates of peak fMRI-based activation in the left and right inferior frontal gyri. During rTMS, participants performed a picture naming task. It included both objects and actions to test whether naming of nouns and verbs would be equally modulated by rTMS. Stimulation of the left inferior frontal gyrus resulted in accuracy facilitation of verb production regardless of individual language lateralization. No modulation of object naming was found at any stimulation site in terms of accuracy nor reaction time. This study causally confirmed the critical contribution of the left, but not the right hemisphere to verb production regardless of the language lateralization patterns observed with fMRI. Also, the results stress that action rather than object naming is the task of choice for mapping language in the frontal lobe. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Proceedings of the 11th Workshop on Automated Knowledge Base Construction (AKBC 2026)
[б.и.], 2026.
While Large Language Models (LLMs) have revolutionized NLP, they remain prone to hallucinations, reasoning “mode-collapse” in open-ended generation, and a lack of factual provenance. The Automated Knowledge Base Construction (AKBC) workshop addresses a key missing piece of the generative era: structured knowledge. Knowledge Bases (KBs) serve as ground truth for fact verification, the semantic backbone ...

Buzanov A., Известия РАН.
Typologies of possessive systems usually distinguish lexical and semantic splits between inalienable and alienable possession. Much less attention has been paid to the next boundary on the extended scale, namely the boundary between alienable and super-alienable possession. This article shows that Tungusic constructions with the suffix -ŋ(V) represent a semantic realization of precisely this type ...

Ovchinnikova A., Reznikova T., Ryzhova D. et al., Acta Linguistica Petropolitana.
The paper describes the system of verbs of change in the Russian language against a typological background within the frame approach to lexical typology. In Russian, this system can be qualified as dominant: the imperfective verb menyat(sya) and its prefixed perfective derivative menyat(sya) cover most of the frames in the field. At the same time, in ...

The article introduces a thematic issue on the lexical typology of the semantic field ‘change’ and provides an overview of its structure and colexifi cation patterns. The study uses a frame-based approach, under which lexical meanings are analyzed through sets of recurrent situations (frames). The core of this approach lies in investigating cross-linguistic variation by examining ...

Stronger right-hemispheric involvement in language processing is associated with greater functional connectivity between the left-lateralized language-related network and the cingulo-opercular network
Karpychev V., Malyutina S., Dragoy O., Brain Structure and Function 2026 Vol. 231 Article 69
Language comprehension and production are predominantly supported by the left-lateralized language-related network (LRN). However, right-hemispheric homologs of the language regions can also contribute to language processing, resulting in reduced left-hemispheric language lateralization. To date, it remains unclear whether less left-hemispheric language lateralization is associated with the recruitment of other non-language networks and their interaction with ...

Working memory (WM) is a system for the short-term storage and processing of a limited amount of information required for a current cognitive activity. WM largely determines a person's cognitive abilities throughout life and has been shown to decline with aging. This decline affects WM updating to a greater degree than maintenance and is more ...

Neural correlates of vestibular adaptation in cosmonauts after long duration spaceflight
Schoenmaekers C., Jillings S., Mortaheb S. et al., NPJ MICROGRAVITY 2025 Vol. 11 Article 71
Long-duration spaceflight affects otolith-mediated ocular counter-roll (OCR) and brain function, but the relationship between these changes is unclear. This study examines whether OCR changes correlate with functional connectivity (FC) changes in the vestibular network in the same cosmonauts after a long-duration (6-month) spaceflight mission. Using a human vestibular atlas, we found that changes in FC ...

Effects of early neuroanatomical variants on reading skills and brain function in typical adult Italian readers
Del Maschio N., Bellini C., Giannachi M. et al., Brain Structure and Function 2025 Vol. 230 Article 55
Reading is a core feature of human communication that develops throughout intensive academic training. Recently, a group of studies examined whether neuroanatomical variants that predate literacy acquisition may influence reading abilities at later stages of life, yielding mixed results. To complement and expand previous knowledge, we used multimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to investigate whether ...

Neural correlates of uncertainty processing: meta-analysis of fMRI studies
Andrey Timashkov, Sarah Anderson, Oksana Zinchenko, Frontiers in Neuroscience 2025 Vol. 19 Article 1662272
The analysis revealed nine distinct activation clusters, revealing a comprehensive neural network involved in uncertainty processing. Key findings demonstrated predominant activations in the anterior insula (up to 63.7% representation), inferior frontal gyrus (up to 40.7%), and inferior parietal lobule (up to 78.1%). We found a functional specialization between emotional-motivational processes (clusters 1–5) and cognitive processes ...

Our study investigates how language proficiency impacts cognitive processing in the brain. We focused on congenitally and early deaf adults, where individual differences in language access during development significantly influence language proficiency and cognitive function. This variability in language backgrounds and skills, allows us to explore the influence of early language experience on the large-scale ...

Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is a heterogeneous mental illness characterized by a variety of clinical manifestations and underlying neurobiological mechanisms. Modern research highlights the importance of identifying subtypes of OCD—separate categories that are characterized by specific phenotypic manifestations. This review provides a systematic integration of multi-level biomarker data (genetic, neuroimaging, neuropsychological) specifically aligned with the most ...
