The Body of a Dancer in a Lecture-performance ("Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Tatiana Gordeeva and Ekaterina Bondarenko)
The article is dedicated to the genre of lecture-performance. The case analysed is Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening at the Moscow Meyerhold Centre. Created and performed by the playwright Ekaterina Bondarenko and the professional dancer and choreographer Tatiana Gordeeva, it explores the perception of space through the body and of a woman in public space. The combination of physical and verbal means, interactive and non-interactive ways of communication with the public and academic and artistic dimensions - all of those contribute to the new poetics of non-virtuosic, casual body that can at the same time be the object and the subject of narration, dance and research. By getting naked while making an academic report, the performers test the audiences’ ability to look at a female body in a non-voyeristic way.
