Коммунистический интернационализм обычно рассматривается как инструмент советской внешней политики либо, в последнее время, как “транснациональная” сфера. Данная статья исходит из того, что интернационализм понимался марксизмом-ленинизмом как совместный проект независимых наций в смысле обособленных политических единиц. Коммунистический Интернационал продвигал эту парадигму в своих учебных заведениях, которые подготовили тысячи иностранных революционеров за период с 1922 по 1943 год. В статье утверждается, что Коминтерн готовил из учащихся не только марксистов, но и сознательных членов своей нации. Принимая, уточняя, или отвергая навязываемые школами Коминтерна национальные классификации при помощи разных стратегий, иностранные учащиеся усваивали сам принцип предлагаемой им национальной идентификации.
