The article is devoted to comprehending the phenomenon of "left turn" in Latin America. This phenomenon, which occurred at the beginning of the 21st century, became possible due to the confluence of a number of social, economic and international circumstances, and had a serious impact on inter-American relations. At the same time, in Russian and foreign literature still exist many questions about its genesis, characteristics, and causes of the crisis. The author believes that an important feature of this phenomenon is the orientation of governments towards the achievement of social equality. Besides, the stability of the “Pink Belt” states in the conditions of right-wing drift in the second decade of the 21st century depends on the type of their political regime
