К вопросу о статусе паронимических неологизмов
This article analyzes the phenomenon of paronymic neology in modern French and describes the typology of paronymic constructions. The paronymic neology in modern French is viewed as a process of creating and using new words formed via paronymic attraction with the intent to make written and oral speech more expressive and convincing. The lexical material is taken from the French dictionaries of nonce words by A. Finkielkraut, 2006 and M. Rheims, 1968 and Internet sources. This article focuses on the definition of paronymic neologism and its main features and characteristics in an attempt to define the status of the paronymic neologism as well as its distinctions from the traditional newly formed lexical constructions. The typology of paronymic neological forms in modern French is based on two main features: initial or foot-feature (where a neologism might be formed from a modern French language stem, a proper noun, foreign language stem, archaism or dialectism) and construction manner (which includes application, substitution, augmentation and reduction, as well as metathetic and epenthetic modes). In addition, this article argues that the special status of paronymic neologisms is determined primarily by the function of these units. With respect to ordinary neologisms, this is the nominative function of the language that is primary. However, as far as paronymic neologisms are concerned, this is the poetic or ludic function of the language aimed at enhancing the expressiveness of the message that dominates, and this is precisely this functional feature that determines the special status of paronymic neologisms.
