This article concerns to significant pictorial source on the history of the 20th century communist and revolutionary movement, the collection of preparatory sketches made by Isaac Brodsky (1883-1939) to paint the picture “The opening of the 2nd Congress of Comintern” but published several years before its completion in 1920. Paper briefly describes the artist’s biography, evolution of his views, process of painting of these sketches and their further destiny. In documentary appendix are presented some photocopies of sketches depicting the most famous persons of Comintern (with brief biographical notes).
