Республиканская идеология мексиканского государства в первой трети XIX века
Republican ideology in Mexico in the first third of the 19thcentury is an important and insufficiently studied as-pect of the formation of national identity and political culture in the postcolonial period. The present study is based on the methodology of the Cambridge School of Intellectual History and interprets republicanism as a dynamic dis-cursive practice that developed during the War of Independence (1810–1824). The purpose of the article is to recon-struct the formation of the republican ideology of theMexican revolutionaries. The research is focused on texts of personal origin, periodicals, program documents and constitutional acts related to the activities of key ideologists of the Mexican movement. It is shown that Mexican republicanism was a combination of ideas of social equality (aboli-tion of slavery, caste system and recognition of the rights of indigenous peoples), popular sovereignty, separation of powers, representation, Catholicism, and civic virtues. Republicanism was perceived as a means of liberation from colonial rule, the elimination of class and racial hierarchies, as well as a moral ideal requiring the participation of citizens in public life.
