МУЗЕЙ «ПО-БОЛЬШЕВИСТСКИ» : ОРГАНИЗАЦИОННОЕ ОФОРМЛЕНИЕ МУЗЕЯ РЕВОЛЮЦИИ СССР
The USSR’s Museum of the Revolution was established in 1924 as one of the first institutions of the ideological apparatus of the Soviet state. It belonged to a new type of museum that emerged in the country after the 1917 Revo- lution. The establishment of the museum was intrinsically linked to the party apparatus and the activities of one of its departments, Istpart. This article reconstructs the principal stages of the institutional formation of this entity and fills a historiographical gap pertaining to the activities of two exhibitions whose materials formed the basis of the muse- um's collection. The study demonstrates that, in the immediate aftermath of the USSR's formation, neither state nor party structures possessed a coherent strategy for engaging with the memory of the revolutionary era. Moreover, in the development of projects aimed at the musealization of the recent past, considerations of form frequently predom- inated over those of content—a circumstance unsurprising given that museum development in this sphere was under- taken by participants in the events themselves: former revolutionaries, journalists, and party officials. For this article, the author analyzed a wide range of sources: Istpart’s documents as the main structure that participated in the muse- um's creation (preserved in RGASPI), documents from the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Rus- sia’s archive (the former Museum of the Revolution), documents of the revolutionary K.P. Zlinchenko (GARF), and reports of the museum's primary party cell, which have never been used in publications on the museum's history.
