Научные традиции как инструмент адаптации исследовательской практики к меняющемуся миру
In the context of the discussion initiated by A. L. Zhuravlev and Yu. N. Oleinik on the challenges and prospects of studying scientific traditions in psychology, this commentary examines the importance of viewing such traditions as a tool that enables the research community to respond effectively to radical changes in socio-psychological reality. Such responses must take into account enduring societal characteristics that reflect the distinctiveness of a particular society, since understanding that society and contributing to its improvement constitute the mission of science as an institution. The article emphasises the need for researchers to have access to a diverse repertoire of interrelated traditions grounded in different theoretical and methodological foundations, enabling them to address the specific challenges of the current historical era. Processes of neo-structuration are identified as one such challenge, bringing to the fore the task of understanding the individual’s constructive potential in relation to the social environment. The article presents examples of Russian scholarship from different historical periods and suggests that bringing these contributions into contemporary research as elements of a potentially unified tradition represents a promising direction for research in contemporary psychology.
Keywords: scientific tradition; Russian society; neo-structuration; constructive potential of the individual; structure–agency.
