Vologodskii during the confrontation between the White Movement and Soviet power. Despite his personal inclination toward judicial pursuits, he rose to the pinnacle of political power, becoming chairman of anti-Bolshevik governments and a senator. Filling gaps in the historiography, the author presents the prime minister’s biography as a lawyer who, during the Civil War, worked to restore the justice system after Bolshevik dominance, determining personnel policy in the judiciary, and reforming the justice system. While there were successes in these endeavors, there were also setbacks, largely due to the hardships the country was experiencing. The Bolshevik victory forced Vologodskii to leave Russia, and all that remained of his former career achievements was his rank as a senator.
