Сравнительное восприятие различных синтетических катинонов: эффекты, риски, образ потребителей
The article examines the perceived effects, risks, and social images associated with users of the two most prevalent synthetic cathinones in Russia: mephedrone and α-PVP. The limited existing literature addressing the social and behavioral characteristics of users tends to treat these substances as a homogeneous category, failing to differentiate between them. Additionally, a notable characteristic of the current scientific literature on synthetic cathinone use in Russia is that nearly all studies rely on data sourced from state drug treatment clinics. This research contributes to the field by presenting, for the first time, a comparative analysis of these two synthetic cathinones, outlining their similarities and differences. The data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with young users who did not seek assistance from drug treatment centers. The sample comprised ten participants, including four women and six men, with an average age of 232 years, all of whom reported prior experience with synthetic cathinones. The findings reveal significant disparities in the perceptions of the two substances. Mephedrone is associated with heightened energy levels and euphoria, which encourages social interaction and emotional openness among users In contrast, α-PVP not only produces similar physical effects but also leads to more severe adverse reactions, including anxiety and paranoia. The risks associated with these substances also vary: although mephedrone is linked to addiction, it is frequently regarded as “fashionable” and less harmful. Conversely, α-PVP is perceived as considerably more dangerous due to its undesirable psychological effects and the heightened likelihood of social degradation. These differences in perception contribute to distinct social images of users; individuals who consume mephedrone are often viewed as substantially less
socially degraded compared to those who use α-PVP. The results obtained from this study provide the basis for developing a social profile of mephedrone and α-PVP users, facilitating more targeted and effective social interventions.
