linguistic and philological research proper. Storage and transmission of cultural information are the most important properties of linguistic sign. Representation of images of the past and present is carried out through language, considered to be a primary semiotic system, at the level of corresponding texts. Among discourse
varieties literary art occupies a special place due to its unique ability to preserve fragments of reality that exist in human memory, both collective and individual. Philological analysis of literary texts enables one to investigate peculiarities of linguistic meaning actualization and the process of its correlation with the reality at a certain chronological period, as well as peculiarities of linguistic means stylistic use in order to create certain aesthetic effect in accordance with contemporary canons. Unique characteristics of the epoch are concerned with penetrating into the socio-historical and global philological vertical context of works of literary art as well as analyzing intertextual phenomena that reflect the connection of times and the specifics of a linguistic sign realization as referred toits diachronic aspect. The world of fiction being represented as an endless inferential process can be regarded as a kind of storage medium for closely interacting individual and collective memory issues. The philological approach to the study of memory phenomena as a repository of human experience can be considered as an integral part of the research process in the field of Memory studies and contributes to the development of its methodological foundations.
