The article examines the transformation of historical imagination under the influence of contemporary video games. The sociological material for authors’ observations was 8 focus groups comparing the games Fallout-4 and Atomic Heart. The main features of the modern historical imagination are shifting boundaries between the past and the future in alternative history and a specific nostalgia built on the recognition of images replicated in the media. It is suggested that these transformations of the historical imagination are changing the configuration of the contemporary public sphere, which researchers have yet to describe.
