Метафора как инструмент организации воспоминаний в дискурсивном мнемическом нарративе
The article explores the use of metaphor as a tool for structuring and manifesting memories and events in speech. The relevance of this study stems from the rapid pace of research into memory and its manifestation at the narrative level through linguistic means. Its novelty lies in demonstrating the ways to utilize the two-sided nature of metaphor to form a coherent mental-linguistic image of memories using contemporary English-language perinatal discourse as an example. Metaphorical images and linguistic representations in the communication of memories were chosen as the object of study. The subject of the study is the mental and linguistic means of constructing a complex system of memories in written narrative text. The material was selected from the memoirs authored by women with extensive memories of the perinatal period. The memoirs are replete with metaphorical images and linguistic representations, the number of which allows us to identify several core metaphors: JOURNEY, WAR, SPORT, PLANT, etc. Using the example of the leading metaphorical image (JOURNEY), methods for using the resource of the conceptual associative field and its aspects to create an ordered linear description of the gestation process, realized at the level of linguistic representations in the form of suitable metaphorical formations, were revealed.
