Редукция гласного как показатель его ударности в современном русском литературном языке
С. 277–285.

The paper deals with the instrumental study of phonetic markers of stress in compound (predominantly loan) disyllabic words in Standard Modern Russian (e.g. stop-kran ‘emergency brake’) as compared with non-compound native words of the same phonological structure (stoptat’ ‘tread down’). The paper states that the words in question under a phrase accent have both syllables stressed, stress being signalized by mid [o] // [e] vowels impossible in unstressed position in Standard Modern Russian. In non-compound native words unstressed [o] vowel in all types of phrase positions after “hard” consonants is displaced by [a] (unstressed [a] being about 10 percent longer than stressed [o]). Our data shows that in compound disyllabic words in a position with no tonal accent phonetically unstressed [o] is displaced by [ə] (not standard [a]) vowel (being somewhat twice shorter than unstressed [a]). Thus, non-trivial [o] vowel reduction in compounds may serve as a phonetic cue of phonological stress which is shown up fully only under the tonal accent. Phonetically the units in question should be treated as a combination of two phonological words and phonetic data may be used as a ground for orthographic adaptation of loan word.

In Strict CV, stress is assumed to be computed above the skeleton and therefore to be independent of melody (Scheer 2004), so the existence of genuine quality-conditioned stress is not expected. It can, however, be reanalyzed using the concept of virtual length (Lowenstamm 1991; Ségéral & Scheer 2016; Ben Si Saïd 2011). This paper presents ...
