At HSE University–St Petersburg, Experts Discuss How AI Changes Tourist Routes and Cultural Heritage
Neural networks are no longer simple travel assistants; now they decide what to include on the route and what to skip. Artificial intelligence changes how people perceive a place and shapes the image of tourist centres. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference ’Information Technologies in the Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage,’ researchers discussed who controls algorithmic solutions and in what ways, and whether authentic traditions get lost in them.

2024. Т. 11. № 1. С. 4–19.
Andreev E. M.

The purpose of this study is to apply methods developed by UN experts for countries with incomplete and unreliable demographic statistics to estimate mortality and fertility indicators for Russia in the 19th century.

Reliable and accessible data characterizing the age composition of the population and age-related mortality at the end of the 19th century and the dynamics of births and deaths during it relate to the European part of the Russian Federation within the borders of 1926. It was this territory that became the object of research.

Life expectancy in the territory under consideration in the middle of the 19th century was in the range of 26–28 years, the total fertility rate was 6.3, and the average number of live children per woman did not exceed 3.

This study provides a comprehensive assessment of the effectiveness of key instruments of Russia’s pronatalist demographic policy—specifically, the federal maternity capital program and the RUB 450,000 subsidy for partial repayment of mortgage debt—over the period 2007–2023. The central research challenge is to disentangle short-term shifts in the timing of births from long-term structural changes in ...

For the professional (in social sciences or humanities) reader David Graeber is a somewhat controversial figure. On the one hand, he is a remarkably successful foreign author in Russia: all his major books have been published in Russian, although his texts and reactions to them have been rather modestly represented in scientific journals. On the ...

Chistikov M., Makarov I. A.,
As the negative socio-economic consequences of climate change increase, attention to adaptation issues is growing worldwide. Currently, most of the adaptation measures are reactive and not very large-scale. The more ambitious approach to climate change adaptation is evident in the idea of "transformational adaptation," which is gaining growing interest in both academic discussions and international ...

Ustyuzhanin V., Zinkina J. V., Korotayev A.,
The high fertility rates that persist in Tropical African countries are a kind of anomaly, since other developing countries had lower fertility rates when having similar socio-economic development indicators — phenomenon dubbed “African pronatalism” in Western demography. Meanwhile, the lag in fertility transition contributed greatly to Africa's economic backwardness since independence, which is why the ...
