The conflict between Budapest and Brussels on the issue of the embargo on the Russian energy resources demonstrates the core crisis within the European Union. We are witnessing the clash of Eastern European Realpolitik, which subsequently represents Hans Morgenthau's precepts about the primacy of national interests, with Western ideology and policy of high hopes and illusions, when mutually beneficial bilateral ties are sacrificed in the sake of the political agenda.
Hungary is not going to follow someone's orders to its detriment. For Orban's government the Hungarian people (not politicians in Brussels or Washington) and the Hungarian economy (not common European ideology) come first. The government follows pragmatism in foreign policy and is ready to defend its position in the international arena.
