The article examines the phenomenon of excessive online gaming, in particular, the massively multiplayer online role-playing games addiction (MMORPG addiction). The author distinguishes between two notions – dependence and excessive dedication. The article poses questions concerning the impact of excessive online gaming on social skills and intensity of communications between the gamers. Based on the foreign literature analysis the study describes such concepts as game, game addiction, gaming dedication, social capital, social skills, and intensity of communications between gamers. The paper also contains results of empirical study conducted among 479 users of multiplayer online games who took part in online survey. The authors use logic and simple linear regression in the study. The findings show that excessive online gaming has a bad effect on the intensiveness of communications; however, there is also a positive impact on social skills. These results differ from those obtained by foreign colleagues who record exceptionally negative effect of online gaming excess. The authors of the article review the desocializing effect of excessive online gaming and assume that it may be overestimated by other researchers.
In this study, we analyze self-reported development experience of adolescents involved in various extracurricular activities. We surveyed a large number of students (9th grade) across several regions of the Russian Federation: St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, Tomsk and Tomsk region, and Pskov. The total number of respondents was 3367. The self-assessment of skills and competencies we used a recently developed YES instrument (Hansen, Larson, 2005). We surveyed the students involved into a range of organized, adult-let extracurricular activities (in hobby groups, sports teams and clubs), and analyzed the obtained data using the method of multiple regression. We have established a connection between specific types of activities and the development of specific personal and interpersonal skills: adolescents involved in individual sports and martial arts believe that these activities help them to develop time management skills and goal setting; development of teamwork skills occurs for any sports and performing activities (dance, theater, etc.); these occupations also help them to acquire the social capital. Individual sports and martial arts offer the most favorable setting for development of most of skills and competencies. At the same time, any types of activities (participation in various sports, fine arts, or academic clubs) assist the youth in building their identities. While all types of extracurricular activities have a positive impact on the development of personality and interpersonal skills, each type of activity can be characterized by its own unique profile.
The article tells about the expedition of a group of managers from the post-Soviet states to Western Africa (Benin, Togo, and Ghana), in October – November 2012. The expedition organized jointly by the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the “DBA-Concept” scientific and consulting group, was led by researchers – the article co-authors. The expedition’s aims were both educational and research: diving into the worlds of African cultures, its participants searched and found in them parallels with their own professional and life experience which were to accelerate their further career and personality progress in the future. There is much to be learned about the importance of the continent’s culture for the present-day globalizing culture from what main “discoveries” these educated, successful Africa first-time visitors did.
In the paper two types of games are considered: the infinity repeated games and multistage games with prescribed duration. The notion of Partially Strong Nash Equilibrium (PSNE) is introduced and the existence of (PSNE) proved for the version of the game with specially defined payoffs along cooperative trajectory.

Recent developments in international football governance seem to be progressively leading toward an increasing use of technological devices for refereeing purposes. Opponents to change are often portrayed as old-fashioned or conservative. Philosophy might be of some help to overcome the dispute. In this paper, we first explore several concepts that are central to the current debate on football refereeing. Then, we determine the business of referees in relation to rules. We assess different arguments displayed regarding the role of chance and skills in competitions. Finally, we argue for the idea of referees as full players in football games.

The aim of this review is to offer a coherent selection of previous findings related to the pivotal role of teachers at nurturing the moral acquisitions in their students. Four sections are dissecting evidence about teaching efficacy, teaching practice, value transmission and imitative learning. Through these elements, the possibilities of a successful intervention will be discussed and confronted with the unavoidable limitations and controversies.
Several approaches to the concept of fatherhood present in Western sociological tradition are analyzed and compared: biological determinism, social constructivism and biosocial theory. The problematics of fatherhood and men’s parental practices is marginalized in modern Russian social research devoted to family and this fact makes the traditional inequality in family relations, when the father’s role is considered secondary compared to that of mother, even stronger. However, in Western critical men’s studies several stages can be outlined: the development of “sex roles” paradigm (biological determinism), the emergence of the hegemonic masculinity concept, inter-disciplinary stage (biosocial theory). According to the approach of biological determinism, the role of a father is that of the patriarch, he continues the family line and serves as a model for his ascendants. Social constructivism looks into man’s functions in the family from the point of view of masculine pressure and establishing hegemony over a woman and children. Biosocial theory aims to unite the biological determinacy of fatherhood with social, cultural and personal context. It is shown that these approaches are directly connected with the level of the society development, marriage and family perceptions, the level of egality of gender order.
