Росписи Георгиевского собора Юрьева монастыря: археология и искусство
This book presents the results of comprehensive research and a catalog of fragments of frescoes of St. George's Cathedral of Yuryev Monastery in Novgorod, originally created shortly after the construction of the cathedral in 1119 and renovated several times until the beginning of the 19th century. Parts of the wall paintings, which were knocked down from the walls of the church in the 19th century, were collected in the course of many years of architectural and archaeological work by the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The chapters of the collective monograph tell about the history of finding the frescoes, the history and peculiarities of studying the frescoes in fragments, the materials and peculiarities of the technology of fresco production in Novgorod in the 12th century. The catalog sections present different categories of fragments of wall paintings. The book is intended for historians, archaeologists, art historians, philologists and all those interested in Russian culture and art.
