HSE Economists Use Search Queries to Forecast Birth Rates
Researchers from the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences have shown that the accuracy of birth rate forecasts for Russia can be improved by almost 50% by incorporating the dynamics of online search queries related to pregnancy and childbirth into forecasting models. In the best-performing models, the forecasting error fell from 4.6% to 3.2%. The findings have been published in Populations and Economics.

HSE Researchers Discover Who Eats Out in Russia-And Why
Around one-third of Russians (31.3%) rarely eat out or buy ready-made meals. The core group of active consumers—those who eat out or purchase prepared food almost every day or several times a week—accounts for only about 9% of the population. These are the findings of a study conducted by the HSE Institute for Social Policy. According to the researchers eating out is no longer a marker of high social status in Russia.

Near/Far-Field State Detection for 6G Terahertz Communications Systems
Prosvirov V., Ershova M., Shurakov A. et al., IEEE Communications Letters 2025 Vol. 29 No. 7 P. 1584–1588
One of the principal specifics of future 6G systems operating in the subterahertz and terahertz frequency bands (0.1–0.3 THz and 0.3–3 THz) is that a part of the base station (BS) coverage will be located in the near-field region. As in this region, the signal received power (SRP) heavily depends not only on the separation ...

Compact Log-Periodic Single-Port Planar Antennas for D-Band Monolithic RIS Panels
Shurakov A., Razakova A., Lvov A. et al., IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters 2025 Vol. 24 No. 1 P. 88–92
The quality of wireless connections in the sixth-generation (6G) communication networks is tightly linked to the capabilities of smart antenna environments. They should enable effective routing of ultra-narrow radio beams, intrinsic to D-band channels, and make use of so-called reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs). Practical RISs are seriously judged by their cost and operation efficiencies. In ...

Simulation of a Fractal Koch Antenna with a Metamaterial Surface
Skryabina V. A., S. V. Bashkevich, A. A. Yelizarov et al., , in: 2024 Systems of Signal Synchronization, Generating and Processing in Telecommunications (SYNCHROINFO).: IEEE, 2024. P. 1–5.
In this paper, computer modelling of the main parameters of an antenna with topology based on Koch fractal and meta-surface is performed. The simulation results of such an antenna on a 65 x 65 x 1.5 mm PCB with one and two layers of metamaterial are obtained. The influence of the metamaterial and its distance ...

Luminescence in nanostructures with compensated quantum wells under optical and electrical pumping
Adamov R. B., Melentev G. A., Podoskin A. A. et al., St. Petersburg Polytechnical University Journal: Physics and Mathematics 2024 Vol. 17 No. 1.1 P. 68–76
Comprehensive studies of the luminescence of p–i–n structures with 10 compensated GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells have been performed. The studies were carried out in the terahertz (THz) and near-infrared (NIR) spectral ranges with both optical and electrical pumping of nonequilibrium charge carriers. The THz photoluminescence spectra revealed an emission line caused by electron transitions from the first size-quantization ...

Two-Dimensional Terahertz Spectroscopy of Nonlinear Phononics in the Topological Insulator MnBi2Te4
Blank T. G., Grishunin K. A., K. A. Zvezdin et al., Physical Review Letters 2023 Vol. 131 No. 2 Article 026902
The interaction of a single-cycle terahertz electric field with the topological insulator MnBi2Te4 triggers strongly anharmonic lattice dynamics, promoting fully coherent energy transfer between the otherwise noninteracting Raman-active Eg and infrared (IR)-active Eu phononic modes. Two-dimensional terahertz spectroscopy combined with modeling based on the classical equations of motion and symmetry analysis reveals the multistage process underlying the excitation of the ...

Terahertz photoluminescence in doped nanostructures with spatial separation of donors and acceptors
Adamov R. B., Melentev G. A., Sedova I. V. et al., Journal of Luminescence 2024 Vol. 266 Article 120302
Terahertz (THz) luminescence in doped nanostructures with GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells is studied under conditions of interband optical pumping. The study is carried out on compensated quantum wells with different doping profiles. In one structure, compensation is carried out directly in each quantum well by introducing donors and acceptors with the same concentration. In the other, ...

This paper presents the results of a study of the radiation characteristics of antennas located on a cylindrical surface. The characteristics of the antennas including the directional pattern as well as the optimal amplitude distribution on the cylinder in parallel and perpendicular polarizations are determined. In addition, the paper focuses on the analysis of the ...

Submicron-Size Emitters of the 1.2–1.55 um Spectral Range Based on InP/InAsP/InP Nanostructures Integrated into Si Substrate
Melnichenko I., Moiseev E., Kryzhanovskaya N. et al., Nanomaterials 2022 Vol. 12 No. 23 Article 4213
We study photoluminescence of InP/InAsP/InP nanostructures monolithically integrated to a Si(100) substrate. The InP/InAsP/InP nanostructures were grown in pre-formed pits in the silicon substrate using an original approach based on selective area growth and driven by a molten alloy in metal–organic vapor epitaxy method. This approach provides the selective-area synthesis of the ordered emitters arrays on Si substrates. The ...
