HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Simulation of a Fractal Koch Antenna with a Metamaterial Surface

P. 1–5.
Skryabina V. A., S. V. Bashkevich, A. A. Yelizarov, Karavashkina V. N., Mashkova M. A.

In this paper, computer modelling of the main parameters of an antenna with topology based on Koch fractal and meta-surface is performed. The simulation results of such an antenna on a 65 x 65 x 1.5 mm PCB with one and two layers of metamaterial are obtained. The influence of the metamaterial and its distance on the antenna parameters is also investigated. Based on the data obtained, the distance from the antenna to the meta-surface at which the required radiation pattern is achieved is determined.

Near/Far-Field State Detection for 6G Terahertz Communications Systems
Prosvirov V., Ershova M., Shurakov A. et al., IEEE Communications Letters 2025 Vol. 29 No. 7 P. 1584–1588
One of the principal specifics of future 6G systems operating in the subterahertz and terahertz frequency bands (0.1–0.3 THz and 0.3–3 THz) is that a part of the base station (BS) coverage will be located in the near-field region. As in this region, the signal received power (SRP) heavily depends not only on the separation ...

Shurakov A., Razakova A., Lvov A. et al., IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters 2025 Vol. 24 No. 1 P. 88–92
The quality of wireless connections in the sixth-generation (6G) communication networks is tightly linked to the capabilities of smart antenna environments. They should enable effective routing of ultra-narrow radio beams, intrinsic to D-band channels, and make use of so-called reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs). Practical RISs are seriously judged by their cost and operation efficiencies. In ...

Mazhorin G., Moskalenko I., Besedin I. et al., Physical Review A: Atomic, Molecular, and Optical physics 2022 Vol. 105 No. 3 Article 033519
We explore experimentally a quantum metamaterial based on a superconducting chip with 25 frequency-tunable transmon qubits coupled to a common coplanar resonator. The collective bright and dark modes are probed via the microwave response, i.e., by measuring the transmission amplitude of an external microwave signal. All qubits have individual control and readout lines. Their frequency ...

Fluctuations and photon statistics in a quantum metamaterial near a superradiant transition
Shapiro D. S., Rubtsov A. N., Remizov S. V. et al., Physical Review A: Atomic, Molecular, and Optical physics 2019 Vol. 99 No. 6 Article 063821
The analysis of single-mode photon fluctuations and their counting statistics at the superradiant phase transition is presented. The study concerns the equilibrium Dicke model in a regime where the Rabi frequency, related to a coupling of the photon mode with a finite-number qubit environment, plays the role of the transition's control parameter. We use the ...

Tikhomirova K., Tantardini C., Sukhanova E. et al., The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters 2020 No. 11 P. 3821–3827
NaCl is one of the simplest compounds and was thought to be well-understood, and yet, unexpected complexities related to it were uncovered at high pressure and in low-dimensional states. Here, exotic hexagonal NaCl thin films on the (110) diamond surface were crystallized in the experiment following a theoretical prediction based on ab initio evolutionary algorithm USPEX.

Reasons of appearance and possible ways of frequency dispersion control in metamaterials based on helix structures with the help of a longitudinal propagation ground plane and a ground plane with capacitive conductivity in azimuth direction are considered. It is shown that existence of metamaterial constructions based on helix systems with abnormal dispersion is a perspective way of reduction if ...
