Genomics-Based Reconstruction and Predictive Profiling of Amino Acid Biosynthesis in the Human Gut Microbiome
Microorganisms. 2022. Vol. 10. No. 4. Article 740.
The human gut microbiota (HGM) have an impact on host health and disease. Amino acids are building blocks of proteins and peptides, also serving as precursors of many essential metabolites including nucleotides, cofactors, etc. Many HGM community members are unable to synthesize some amino acids (auxotrophs), while other members possess complete biosynthetic pathways for these nutrients (prototrophs). Metabolite exchange between auxotrophs and prototrophs affects microbial community structure. The established approach for metabolic phenotype profiling will be useful for prediction of overall metabolic properties, interactions, and responses of HGM microbiomes as a function of dietary variations, dysbiosis and other perturbations.

The article analyzes modern legislation regarding artificial termination of pregnancy in countries around the world. Depending on the grounds on which abortion is permitted, five groups of countries are distinguished. Estimates have shown that about 60% of women of reproductive age live in countries with liberal legislation, where abortion is allowed at the request of ...

Malaria control in Malawi relies primarily on long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (LLITNs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS), but transmission remains heterogeneous across districts. Previous research indicates that community-based environmental management strategies, such as routine drainage maintenance, vegetation removal, and effective household waste disposal, may reduce environmental conditions conducive to malaria vector proliferation. This study investigated the ...

Antiviral activity is commonly summarized using endpoint measures such as EC50 or EC90, yet these quantities emerge from a dynamic biological system and depend on viral replication kinetics, host-cell properties, experimental design, and the assay used to quantify infection. Infectious-virus titers, viral RNA, infected-cell fractions, viability measurements, and immune readouts capture different components of the ...

Brachiopoda is a group of animals, that is still insufficiently studied at the ultrastructural level, despite the significance of ultrastructure of tissues and organs for analysing the functional morphology, reconstructing the organisation and biology of numerous extinct brachiopods, and establishing relationships among major taxa. In the present study, we provide a revised reconstruction of the ...

The role of escape from the cytotoxic T cell (CTL) response in SARS-CoV-2 evolution remains controversial. Here, we study the origin and spread of SARS-CoV-2 variants whose mutations reduce presentation by the HLA class I alleles common in human populations. We find that 35% of mutations that are characteristic of the variants of concern, and ...

Abstract
Significance. The epidemiological, clinical, and socioeconomic effects of healthcare digitalization are actively discussed in the scientific literature. Less attention has been paid to changes in the organization of healthcare resulting from the introduction of digital technologies. These changes have not been the subject of specific research. However, digital technologies is becoming a driver for the ...
