OPERATION OF THE LEVELLING DEVICE
Balers of various designs are used to harvest compressed stalk forage, for example, compressed hay. Constant chamber roll balers are simpler and more reliable. However, the dried stalk mass coming from the rolls, due to peculiarities of the roll formation, rotates randomly in the bale chamber until it is full. Analysis of the density of hay inside the roll shows that the highest density of hay across the roll width (pickup width) is observed in the middle part. This is due to the shape of the swath of hay entering the roll baler. To determine the effect of the levelling device on the change in the density of stalk particles inside the roll, a series of experimental studies was carried out during which the density of rolls at various sites was determined when harvested using a roll baler with a constant volume chamber with and without the levelling device. The obtained research results show that when using a roll baler with a constant volume chamber and an installed levelling device, the density of hay at the edges of the bale increases to 84 kg/m3, while the density remains the same (180–200 kg/m3) in the middle of the roll.
