Today, amid all-round cooperation between Russia and China, doubts may arise about the prospects for Russian-Chinese interaction, and the Russian public sometimes has a historical position of the PRC on the issue of the southern Kuril Islands as a reason for such doubts about the unity of the geopolitical interests of Moscow and Beijing. The subject of this article is a historical analysis of the position of the People's Republic of China on the ownership of the southern Kuril Islands and the determination of its impact on Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of regional security.
