The aim of this book is to reassess the scope, effectiveness and overall coherence of existing legal defi nitions of organised crime, and to identify whether there is a need for a reappraisal of these definitions. The analysis stems from the conviction that, within the European Union (EU) legal order, an appropriate identifi cation of what amounts to ‘organised crime ’ is central to the multifaceted efforts to combat this phenomenon in the framework
of EU Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters.
