На основе собранного в одном из малых городов Костромской области этнографического материала автор выстраивает картину патриархатного гендерного режима города. Делается упор на включенное наблюдение за горожанами и их внешним обликом (и последующий анализ полевых дневниковых записей), на исследовательские интервью, а также на анализ локальных художественных произведений.
