Soviet Folklore as Translation project: a case of Tvorchestvo narodov SSSR, 1937
P. 174–187.
Zemskova E.
The paper focuses on the archival documents left after the editorial board of the collective volume “Tvorchestvo narodov SSSR”, published 1937 and 1938 to celebrate the anniversary of the October revolution. These documents allow to describe how the soviet politically engaged folklore texts were produced in the case when the “originals” were supposed to circulate in the minor languages of the Soviet Union. Basing on interlinear trots, translation drafts and editorial correspondence the paper revels some manipulation patterns whereby the editors homogenized different translation into poetics of the so called “Stalin’s folklore”
