The evolution of the raw material model of economic development is considered. Resources are analyzed as a factor of economic growth and sustainable economic development. Trilemma in natural resource management are disclosed. Methods of extraction of natural resource (mountain) rent are shown. Mineral resources in the structure of national wealth and natural capital are characterized. The problems of subsoil depletion are given. World trends in subsoil use are given: green energy, circular economy. On the example of the oil and gas sector of the economy, the coal industry, mining and metallurgical business, the formation of value added chains is presented.
