The article presents the results of the study of the dynamics of salt prices in the Kholmogory and Vologda markets for the period 1624–1635, based on the data of the income and expenditure books of the Spaso-Prilutsky Monastery. The use of quantitative analysis and various graphical models allowed us to study in detail the features of the formation and trends of price fluctuations for this product in the two largest wholesale markets of the Moscow state. This approach gave us the opportunity to critically reconsider some of the theses established in Russian historical science about the nature of the development of the Russian economy and economic processes of this period.
