Philosophical anthropology emerged as an academic discipline in Protestant German universities of the 17th century. In the first half of the twentieth century . This name was assigned to a number of teachings of German thinkers (M. Scheler, G. Plessner, A. Gehlen, etc.). Despite all the differences between these doctrines, they were united by the fact that the problem of man was considered by them as the original and central issue of philosophy. In a broader sense, this term refers to the anthropocentric teachings of modernity (existentialism, personalism). Finally, the entire European philosophical tradition has assumed the connection of cognition with self-awareness and self-knowledge. All these varieties of philosophical anthropology have assumed the correlation of philosophical speculation with scientific theories and data. Along with physical anthropology, which includes the results of a number of natural sciences, there are cultural and structural anthropology (ethnography), pedagogical anthropology, historical anthropology (the Annales school), economic anthropology, etc.
