Гонения и защита античного наследия в "Антиварварах" и "Цицеронианце" Эразма Роттердамского
This article analyzes Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam's treatises "Antibarbarian" and "Ciceronianus," which represent seminal works in the polemic surrounding the preservation and interpretation of classical heritage. The paper examines the humanist's defense of classical legacy and his critique of the excessive and dogmatic imitation of Cicero's style, which, in Erasmus's view, led to "barbarism." The study elucidates the historical context of the treatises' creation, the evolution of Erasmus's ideas, his engagement with medieval "Devotio Moderna," and his role in shaping Christian humanism. Particular attention is paid to a detailed account of the intricate, almost "detective-like," publication history of "Antibarbarian" and the reasons behind the vehement reaction to "Ciceronianus," analyzing both the religious and stylistic aspects of this controversy. The edition includes commented translations of these works, along with supplementary texts, all published in Russian for the first time.
