In 1837 the Grand Duchess Elena Pavlovna traveled south of Russian Empire. She left her three daughters, Grand Duchesses Maria, Elizaveta and Ekatherina, in St. Petersburg. During all her voyage she continued to correspond by letters. While their mother was not around, the Grand Duchesses spent the end of summer and the beginning of autumn in Oranienbaum, Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich`s, their father`s, residence. In order to contribute the information on the topic of child inside palace, this work examines the problem of the child inside Oranienbaum. Using mainly the letters of the Grand Duchesses to their mother from the funds of the State Archive of the Russian Federation that have not yet been introduced into scientific circulation, the author examines the biographies of the three Grand Duchesses, identifies the nuances of working with their letters and examines what the Grand Duchesses wrote about Oranienbaum, concentrating on aspects of the daily activities and amusements, as well as on the personal attitude of the Grand Duchesses to Oranienbaum. The conclusions allow to consider Oranienbaum as a place for daily classes, holidays. Also to reveal the special attitude of the Grand duchesses to this residence.
