Teaching Postgraduates The Basics Of English Academic Writing
In view of the growing demand for effectively written research articles especially by non-native scholars the authors attempt to draw EAP teachers’ attention to different options to guide novices on the field focusing on unifying existing procedures and incorporating innovations. The article reports on the results of the experimental study targeting 96 postgraduates who faced certain time restrictions and difficulties in acquiring necessary writing skills, and discusses merits of implementing the complex methodology which is largely in line with traditions of the genre analysis. The novel elements involve bilingual vocabulary lists and a “pattern phrase” approach and are intended to assist learners to become competent in structuring research articles and elaborating adequate academic style.
